Gris: A Delicacy in the Sea of Repetitive Games
Gaming for mental health
Introduction
In a vast sea of games which can seem repetitive, Gris is a delicacy. This indie platformer published by Devolver Digital and developed by Nomada Studio has been recognized for its beauty and unique gameplay after it released on the Nintendo Switch in 2018. I was personally drawn to the game's watercolor art style, but what I found when I played it was so much more than that
It is not often that a game comes along that is a beautiful, emotional piece of artwork.
Gris is an understated, beautiful game that deserves to be played. It is not often that a game comes along that is a beautiful, emotional piece of artwork. Gris takes the player on a journey through what can be described as an emotional time capsule. The gameplay itself is not overly complex or difficult, but it will take you on an adventure unlike any other you have ever experienced in gaming.

In this puzzle-platformer you play as Gris, an amnesiac girl who must escape the monotony of reality through finding herself in the world around her. This journey takes place across four distinct worlds with unique art styles and soundtracks: The Cave, The Forest, The City and finally The Sea; each world representing an aspect of life itself (love/hate) or death (eulogy).
Each level contains puzzles which require different gameplay mechanics to solve them like jumping between platforms or transforming into different creatures depending on what color block you step on will help you succeed at these challenges but don't worry about getting stuck because there are plenty of checkpoints throughout each stage so dying isn't too much trouble especially since every time Gris dies she loses her hair making her look more vulnerable than ever before but don't worry because once again there are plenty player-created checkpoints throughout each stage so dying isn't too much trouble especially since every time Gris dies she loses her hair making her look more vulnerable than ever before but don't worry because once again there are plenty player-created

Gris is a game about a young girl lost in the world. The story follows her journey to find herself, and the people she meets along the way. It's a beautiful tale, told through gorgeous visuals, touching music, and an intriguing narrative.
The game is set in a watercolor world that is gorgeous, but also drab and grey at the same time—a metaphor for how our main character feels throughout most of the game. As you play through each scene you learn more about her life: where she came from, why she's alone now; who left her behind (or did they)? The game doesn't answer these questions outright; it lets you decide what happened by how your character reacts to others' stories as well as their own experiences within this colorful yet dreary setting.
The main character, Gris (Spanish for gray) has no voice, but she does sing and cry as the story progresses.
Gris (Spanish for gray) has no voice, but she does sing and cry as the story progresses. She is a girl with a mysterious past and a quiet demeanor who wears a mask to hide her emotions. She may not be much of a talker, but that doesn't mean she can't communicate or express herself through song.

The story touches on themes of sorrow and loss.
Gris is a game about loss and grief. It's about love, friendship, and identity. It's also a game about the fear of being alone. And yet, it's also a game that explores the need to be alone. Gris' story touches on these themes in ways that feel genuine and authentic throughout its runtime. As you play through this tale of an adorable girl who loses her way in life after losing her dog, you'll find yourself caring deeply for every character you meet along the way—even if they're not always kind to each other or themselves.
Gris' narrative makes it one of my favorite games released this year because it deals with topics rarely addressed by big-budget titles: how we can find ourselves again after experiencing deep grief; how those around us can help us through our sorrows; what happens when someone misinterprets our needs for connection when all we need is solitude?
Gris was nominated for Best Game Design in 2019 by IGN Spain.

IGN is a video game news website that covers all kinds of games from all over the world, so it has a very large audience. The Spanish version of IGN is called IGN España, which means that if you're reading this in English and want to see what Gris did for me, check out the Spanish version on their website!
Conclusion
If you are looking for a game to play that is a little different from the typical fare, you should definitely check out Gris. It is not often that we see games like this. We give it an 8/10 and recommend it for anyone who likes unique experiences.
